Testimony

What was once given by mouth
Is now unspoken:
The long wisdom,
Shamen teaching with their paradoxes,
Gurus in motionless meditation,
Masters with disciples,
All slipped into humanity
As a thing between.

There is no other place for it
Except in our cells
In which,
Unless we learn to love it,
Our ancient truth is imprisoned:
Between the bone and the skin,
Where tissue knits a nerve in place,
In the folds of the brain,
Somewhere between waking
And the coming of hope.

Wisdom defies us to live without it,
Defies the facts to fit its face,
Laughs in the sidelines of a pratfall
And lifts earth to heaven
On the wing of an angel.
